Twenty Percent Sober

“Good food, good wine, good company”

Who we are

TPS started as 5 old friends and long-time players of WoW wanting just to drink, have fun, drink and talk rubbish while drinking. What turned out to be the strangest thing is that we were not alone and pretty soon the guild was growing.

We are a mixed bunch of men and women (and the occasional “confused”) scattered from Ireland to South Africa, Devon to Cyprus. We do not have any young members because we are best described as ‘ribald’. A signficant proportion of the guild are parents and cries of “AFK, baby awake” are not unusual, although rarer statements like “AFK, the cat fell in the toilet whilst I was peeing” have also been heard.

The diversity is not just geographic it also applies to play styles: We have people who raid multiple times per week, both through the guild and through part-guild/part-PUG. But we also have people who have only 1 or 2 toons and no level 80′s.

What we offer

PvE
We’re trying to raid at least a couple of times each week, preferring to have a fun evening than obsess over progression and loot. Mostly it has recently been 10-man Ulduar and TOTC, although the occasional old-world classic raid or run to Naxx is not unheard of.

The philosophy when raiding is that any single mistake results in an instant gkick, and public humiliation via the Trade channel. What? You don’t believe us? Damn. Ok, that’s not true. Our philosophy is that we’re there to have fun, and that knowing tactics will help, but being an ass won’t. Mistakes happen, generally we laugh about it, and just try again. (and sometimes a third time, but there’s no point being a damned fool about it!).

Drinking whilst raiding is entirely encouraged, especially if you’re on Teamspeak and can be heard getting more and more drunk as the evening progresses. We have to draw the line at anyone drinking Pimms, though. Or Babycham.

We have no ‘hardcore’ elite raiding team. we do not have pre-requisites for people to be included on a raid and we do not operate a DKP system of any sort. However, if we know a raid to be against a challenging boss then we will generally pick the better geared/more experienced toons/players until we have a good knowledge and experience of the boss(es) and are able to take less well geared toons and still have a chance of success.

PvP
Whilst some members in the guild have formed their own teams for PvP or arena, it’s not something that is a focus for the guild.

What we want

Always it is about fun.

Guild chat is quite active, although if you’re grinding and not paying attention you’ll generally be left in peace… while the rest of us take the mickey out of you.

A lot of instance runs are organised in-guild and it’s only when we start to run out of alts that are not locked to instances that we really need to look for outside help. That said, there are a lot of us with friends (and former TPS members) in other guilds and these are usually our first port of call when we are looking to fill slots.

Guild bank access is pretty relaxed although, due to 2 separate account hacks in the past, we have had to put a few restrictions in place.

We use TS (Teamspeak) and ask people to come onto TS during raids even if it is only to listen to ensure everyone knows what is going on. People are welcome to use the TS server even when not raiding and frequently do!

Our playing times, coupled with the nature of the guild, mean that we do not have any young members. It’s not that we have a preference for ‘older’ players nor a minimum age for membership, just that you need to be an adult (preferably an ‘adult’ without being too ‘grown up’ ) to get the best from the guild.

Recruitment

TPS does not actively recruit as we tend to find people coming to us to ask if they can join. The single most important characteristic for new members is their attitude – If you make it onto one of TPS’s members friends lists and have teamed up with them a few times then you can ask them about joining. If they are willing to introduce you to the guild then we’ll see what we can do

Leadership

We have 4 GM’s and any of them can speak as the GM and all of them have full GM powers (as close as the game mechanics will allow)

Bonzo
Magpawacar
Malignant
Sazon

We also have a number of officers who can help with any queries
