GotF: Muted

Muted from the Alliance side feature as Emerald Dreamers Guild of the Fortnight, providing facts about the Guild and tales of hilarious wipes, I would like to introduce you all to the Guild Master Dottz.

I want to take this opportunity to encourage all you Horde Guilds out there to put up your guild listings by filling in our guild listings form remember to tick the magic box at the bottom to be featured as our Guild of the Fortnight!

Who are you then?

We are Muted, originally created by a group of in-real-life and long-term Ventrilo friends from across many games. No matter what new game took our fancy we always came back to WoW, and during the days of ToC we all eventually ended up on the same server and all lacked a raiding guild. So we thought, “Why don’t we create a raiding guild?!” and Muted was born…

What is the story behind your guild name?

Well, when we originally created the guild it was under the far too serious name of The Last Resistance a name creation from our self-proclaimed name-extraordinaire, with a character name résumé including the likes of Soulcatcher, Weatherforce and his current Directhit. With a general consensus of ‘”just whatever” we went along with the name… for a while. The guild was a bit placid and not really going anywhere so we decided that a make-over was needed to turn the guild around.

With some discussion on Ventrilo about prior guild names and guild names in general, it was our friend Poonix ( /wave) who agreed that the name shouldn’t be so serious and should be a bit more laughable. Of course laughable names brought up the usual “your mum” WoW related jokes and such, but also memories of the massive laughs we have had on vent. Before the entrepreneurship of creating a guild kicked in, we always used to poke fun at Alnitak on vent, and whenever he would get annoyed, or just to do it for laughs, he would shout MUTED! down the mic in his famous tone, known only to the Muted crew. It was this classic moment that inspired our guild name, which if you have ever been on a raid with us, is highly controversial.

PvP or PvE?

As far as the guild’s direction is concerned, PvE definitely. Our aims are to experience the end-game storyline and encounters blizzard has to offer while maintaining a fun and friendly atmosphere. There has however been a recent upsurge in PvP interest among a few guildies so, who knows, Hordies beware…

Horde or Alliance?

For the Alliance! Being a gnome, and an Alliance guild, I can’t really say much else. Although my original main was a Tauren Warrior which is always appealing.

10 man or 25 man?

A bit of both? Originally a 10 man guild for ease of start up but we have managed to expand to 25 mans and are looking to finalize our expansion to regular full guild 25 mans. Although, blizzard seems to turn the lag on every time we go into 25 mans.

Social or Hardcore?

Social in the respect of being social and having a good time. But in terms of raiding attitude, we aren’t hardcore as such as the stereotype goes. As I said, our guild name is controversial as we are definitely not “Muted” during raids, there is a lot of banter bouncing around. However we don’t let the fun and chitter chatter get in the way of the main task at hand and everyone (mostly) is focused (usually) at boss fights. So, as the Emerald Dreamers website so grandly puts it, I would class Muted as Softcore-ish.

Loots or Laughs?

As you may have gathered already, laughs are a given thing in our guild, however we hold both Loots and Laughs close at heart. Its pretty hard to have a raid go without any laughs, but nonetheless they are an important part of our guild environment, as are loots… I believe it’s a healthy balance of progression, and so loots, with laughs and a friendly atmosphere of general guild life, that leads to success.

Arena or Battlegrounds?

The thrill of the arena far outweighs the mindless honor grinding of battlegrounds… personally anyway.

Eastern Kingdom or Kalimdor?

Kalimdor all the way, what sort of people would we be without those low level experiences, or and experiences in general of Barrens chat…

Describe your guild in 3 words

Shaemage: F***ing Kick Ass

Vargulf (PvP Social): PvE Heroes lol

Dottz: One Warlock Show

Frezal: Good but Slack

Best wipe ever?

Our best wipe ever is probably a recent Festergut 25 attempt. After refining our tactics and becoming a lot more organized, we re-grouped and re-buffed and readied ourselves. Just as the ready check came in and we gave the signal for our tank to go when ready, Alnitak summoned his Army of the Dead and pulled the boss unexpectedly. This was of course greeted with a resounding ALNITAK! from the whole guild.

Funniest moment ever?

One of many but our first ever ToGC10 kill was soo close it was funny. Finally getting to phase 3 of Anub’arak with everything looking well, leeching swarm started to overwhelm us. 1 by 1 people started dropping off, but his health was ever so slightly creeping down. By the last 5% or so, the tank died and we all believed it to be a wipe. Absolution, our rogue, grabbed the encounter by the reigns and began evasion tanking Anub’arak. By this point everyone was dead, but from my gnome corpse, in the corner of my screen, I saw our resto druid Imperious, soulstone back alive and begin wrathing the boss, to which we managed to kill him and complete ToGC10!

Not such a lengthy story but another of our memorable moments, probably not putting us in the best light but, during a semi-pug run in ICC25, one PuG finally broke under the strain of our constant banter and raged the sentence “Can you all shut the **** up, I can’t even think when your all ADHD-ing on vent!”.

Why should people join you?

They shouldn’t, as some our members would joke! But in all seriousness (or as serious as we get), if people are looking for a fun and friendly guild to have a lot of laughs whilst hopefully being able to see the end of what PvE has to offer then we could be the guild for you!

With thanks to Tethane for having us as Guild of the Fortnight, it leaves me with nothing left to say except one shameless plug: http://muted.wowstead.com and a few last words from a few members.

Sharkfak: ra ra

Sayakho: Get us a Shadow Priest!
