That is the question.
For those who aren’t aware, Icecrown Citadel zone-wide buffs have gone live on US servers (my gnomes tell me it’s not live for us yet, which can only mean it’s coming tomorrow). The current buff will give a 5% increase to your health, damage and healing done, which is a pretty big increase when you think about it. It’s very likely that higher percentage buffs will be activated over time.
The catch here is that these buffs are optional, but either the whole raid takes them or the whole raid doesn’t so far as I can tell. There are bound to be disagreements among those who would rather get a “clean” kill and those who just want to get through the bosses as quickly as possible, but if it were up to you which camp would you fall into?

Think it’s a nice gesture to the social-raiding guilds that struggle but if I would be a hardcore raider I would be pissed off seeing scrubs getting the gear you worked hard for way easier. Just like the emblems of frost for PvP gear -.- or VoA for PvP gear…Just all so retarded, blizz is making it all far to easy for the keyboard turning lowbrainers amongst us. Demoralizing at times.
HAI LOOK AT ME I HAS SAME SHOULDERS AS YOU, ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT I HAD TO DO DAILY HEROICS AND DO FUCK ALL AND YOU HAD TO PLAY ARENA GAMES AND WAIT WEEKS FOR POINTS. So annoying seeing everyone walking around in my gear at the start of the season.
So why the hate that, shock horror, people who do not form part of the minority elite might want to get nice gear and see end game instances? They’ll not get into the better guilds, won’t see hardmodes and likely not kill arthas but at least it gives a helping hand to those who are close to kills but just lack that little push.
It’s been like this since vanilla but TBC really brought it out in the nerd ragers, get over it, your life won’t end if a casual player is able to get decent gear, if you don’t like it, quit, as blizzard not going to change this policy of allowing the big majority of players (casuals) to get access to good gear and end game content.
Oh nooo the shoulders are shared!
But the PVP Weapons aren’t.. or Sanctified Shoulders, Head or Chest. Or any number of other slots that VOA and Badges don’t cover like Trinkets.
Icecrown buffs are fine for normal modes (though maybe introduced a little early) and might help a lot of people see the end of the instance. I’d say they really shouldnt be available for hard modes though, kind of a contradiction in terms.
If people can’t do LK normal, they’re not going to be able to handle any of the heroics, so I doubt it matters much if the buff applies to heroic mode or not.
This way though the top guilds can get their Heroic kill with the buff, then with that experience go back and do it without for bragging rights.
I do feel that the buff came in slightly too soon, I would have thought it would have been brought in with the next patch and get progressively more powerful from then on. Hc LK wasn’t down when the buff was introduced in either 10 or 25, yet the day it became active 2 guilds scored kills so they couldn’t have been far off.
I only got to see Illdian down at the end of TBC due to a retuning of the raids in the lead up to the WotLK, and it was epic even though it was post nerf, and I have no problem with them doing the same here in the lead up to Cataclysm.
