Our Survey Says: Mounts for money?

I can be quoted from my Guild website saying “I would give my first born” for the Celestial Steed mount when I first saw a sneaky peek of the design, but on the day of the release and still some weeks after, trade has turned into one huge mount rant… what do you think and did you buy it?

Did you buy the Celestial Steed mount?

In truth I don’t see where the fuss is all about.
Blizzard is a company, and a company aims to make a profit. they see that more than enough people are interested in cosmetic and vanity items and are willing to pay for it. From a business perspective it would be a very bad idea not to use such an opportunity.
On the other hand they now offer ingame items for real currency, something they have been combatting ever since the start of WoW.
But no I ain’t jealous of people having it nor am I angry about it, if they want to spend their money on a virtual item it is their godgiven right to do so.

I bought it because I liked the look of it. I spent a most entertaining afternoon at work reading the masses of QQ threads on the forums about it, and laughing at the people looking telling everyone not to buy it like it’s their right to tell others what to do. It’s my money, thank you. I earned it, so I’ll spend it on what I damn well want. Blizzard gets my dosh, I get a nice mount I can use on all my alts. Win-win for both us as far as I’m concerned.

I particularly enjoyed the ‘ZOMG BLIZZ WILL BE SELLING READY MADE 80s IN FULL EPIXXX NEXT!!!!!!!1111oneone QQQQQQ’ threads. Such melodrama!

Btw I voted for I bought the mount option, since I’m sure to buy it in the nearby future, because that’s the option closest to my opinion :) .

  • Vid

Where’s the option for “I think paying £25 on top of subscription for a bad looking mount that is no better then any other mount in game is stupid”?

  • Spyna

Voted “what mount huh?”, just because there is no option like: “I won’t buy it because I prefer to spend the money in beer, but I don’t see any problem in it bein sold and in whoever buys it” ^^

  • Rezin

Haven’t bought one yet, but probably will do eventually – i’m not massivly for or against the looks, or blizzard squeezing more cash out of us for something like this. I do think it’s relatively useful as you you get it across all current and future chars, and it scaless ie. land only in low zones. That’s quite handy.

The vanity pets though – they’re massively crap to expect to charge a chunk of money for.

    “Lil Kt”… fuck off tbh.

  • I couldn’t fit every opinion into a vote, but thats what makes the comments great!

Don’t like the idea, didn’t pay. Others do, so they did pay. The wonderful principle of voting with one’s wallet. In truth unless Blizzard start selling raid gear I’m not that bothered, but I’ve plenty of neat-looking mounts without resorting to That Retarded Horse.

(Yes, I’m that one guy who doesn’t like this who apparently isn’t a complete strawman)

  • I’m not interested in collecting mounts. For those who are, yay a new mount for you.

I wouldn’t worry about them selling gear, past MMO’s have shown that any subscribe game that sells gear dies a painful death as the game balance gets destroyed, people get sick of being owned by the guy with a bigger wallet and they all quit.

Won’t buy just because I think its ugly and pretty much most races look awful on it. But in the end each to their own. I did buy Lil’ KT though!

  • Mogil

I have it and will be getting lil XT this week with pay day.

I got the pandaren monk and lil KT.

I earned the money through hard work every month and I choose to spend it on vanity items in game. Personally i dont mind them selling these vanity items since I have spent money recently on TCG loot cards I payed for the big blizzard bear so its no different for me using real life currency to aquire pets/mounts

  • Bonzo

Agreed with most others: it’s your money, so by all means choose not to buy it if it’s against your principles.

It doesn’t break the game, so why the fuss?
If Blizz ever start selling gear though, that’s a whole new topic.

I didn’t buy it because… HAVE YOU EVEN SEEN HOW BADLY A TAUREN WARRIOR DOESN’T FIT ON IT???!zomgbbqsauce!1one

    • Baeddan

I have a Blood Elf Paladin and since a few RL friends started playing whilst I was having my “Horde Affair” they rolled Horde characters as well. Once they reached lvl 58ish I decided to roll a Tauren Death Knight so I could play together and I wouldn’t be bugged 24/7 to boost them with my lvl 80 :) .
In truth I have yet to find one mount apart from the kodo’s where a Tauren truly looks good on :) .

Trading card mounts have been around forever, so the only new thing here is that it’s Blizzard who’s making money and not the Ebayers. Didn’t buy the mount because it’s ugly. Will RAF myself soon to get that nice rocket mount though.
