The Soapbox: More New Guilds

Reading the guild management forums or sitting in trade for more than 3 seconds both give the same impression; people just love to make new guilds! Why is this? Why do people insist on forming guilds when there are so many around in the first place? And why, above all, are they so bad at it?

Your new guild will in all likelihood be disbanded by this time next month. Don’t you have any shame?

Our Survey Says: Website Fiend

How many times have I pointed a guildie* to Gear Wishlist? I’ve no idea, but it’s got to be a lot. This is an excellent example of a far-too-underused and yet extremely useful game-related website, and only a few of us seem to have ever even heard about it. I’ve been an avid user of these sites for a long time, in TBC for example my obsessions were Warcrafter and Loot Rank. Yet I’m constantly reminded that most people haven’t only not heard of these sites, they actively don’t care.

Do you use these resources to improve your character and your gameplay, or do you prefer the more relaxed “it’ll be fine” approach to character development?

How do you feel towards WoW-related websites?

Upcoming Site Changes

As you all know this site is pretty new. Most of it was built in the space of a week and certain parts aren’t exactly ideal.

We’ve had quite a bit of interest in the site so far, which has helped to highlight various bugs and problems currently on my to-do list. I thought I’d let you know what exactly is planned for the site, and take any suggestions you might have to improve it even more.

Famous for 5 Minutes: Monava

There are some very well known WoW-based studies out there, and we’ve probably all filled in at least one poll or questionnaire about our favourite pastime. There are reports on our avatar choices, our “addictions”, our online relationships and a lot else besides.

What you may not know is that we’re harbouring one of these research types on our very own realm. Not one of those reactionary negative types we hear so much about, but someone who genuinely enjoys the game and just happens to have an opportunity to delve a little deeper. I present to you…Monava.

Achieve This! Gurubashi Arena Grand Master

It’s the festive season, a time of goodwill and friendship. A time of giving and receiving, and all the joy of spending time with those you love.

Alternatively, a time of free chocolate and some PvP.

If you’ve run far too much Wintergrasp and whatever in hell the battleground is this weekend, and you’re looking for a change, why not turn your attention to the relatively little-pursued Gurubashi Arena Grand Master achievement! It ticks all the right boxes. Killing? Check. Standing about tensely hoping someone else doesn’t kill you? Check. Torturous timed events that you miss at your own peril? Check. What more could you want from your Christmas holiday?

Let’s get cracking. Cracking. Like a Christmas CRACKer. See what I did there.

Our Survey Says: Holiday Blues

Brewfest 2009 marked the first time that those players devoted (and lucky) enough to have completed all of the seasonal meta-achievements were able to get their hands on a genuinely stunning mount, inspiring awe and jealously in those around them. I myself know a depressing amount of people who fly about on their violet drake at every opportunity, often just because they know I want one.

On the other hand, maybe getting the drake first time round isn’t so fun now that everyone else is running about (or sitting still disguised as a snowman, whatever) getting their Winter Veil achievements the “lucky” few have nothing much to do.

So which camp do you fall into? Is Winter Veil achievementastic or just one long wait for your  BB gun?

How are you enjoying the world events this time around?

Our Survey Says: Are You A Guildhopper?

From Wowwiki:

Guild hopper is a term used to describe players of World of Warcraft who join a guild for the sole purpose of gaining loot, then leaving to join another guild. It was possible for this type of player to gear themselves up in a very short space of time by gaining drops from boss kills with their guild.

If you’ve been in a lot of guilds, chances are that somewhere along the line someone you know has considered you a guildhopper. You may not fit the definition above, but whether you left your guilds for good or bad reasons often doesn’t matter since all we see when researching guild history is the number. The question is do you think your guild number is a bit over the top, or is all fair in WoW and loot?

Would you ever consider yourself to be a "guildhopper"?

As a sidenote I’d like to point out that this poll is two days late, I have had horrendous flu and will be spamming you all again shortly.

Our Survey Says: 3.3 Release

The news should have filtered down to even the most oblivious player by now…the patch is on it’s way! For some of us it’s an exciting time, we’ve managed to complete at least most of the current raid content but with enough left over to keep us from becoming bored, but others haven’t been so lucky.

I’m glad to count myself among the former group, but which are you? Share your thoughts, ‘cos let’s face it we have little better to do while the realms are down.

Do you approve of the 3.3 release date?
