Our Survey Says: Arena Joy

It’s arena tournament time! Well technically it’s arena practise time but whatever, you can spend the time until things get official dressing your character in all the things you wish you really owned. Duel some persistent yet curiously cowardly mages outside Stormwind, try out other classes, run about spamming owl macros, whatever tickles your pickle. You could even do some arena, though I hear that’s a controversial approach.

Playing enough ranked games nets you a cool non-combat pet, but actually being good at it could get you a title. If there’s a reason for not taking part (*cough* apart from the £12 entry fee *cough*), I just can’t think of it. Look out for Shootygoose,Holygoose and Hittygoose!

Is one partaking in arena tournament joy?

Oh yes, and if you’ve forgotten how to turn off the annoying newbie popups, it’s in your interface menu under “help”. Don’t spend 2 days looking for it like a certain priest did.

Our Survey Says: Mounts for money?

I can be quoted from my Guild website saying “I would give my first born” for the Celestial Steed mount when I first saw a sneaky peek of the design, but on the day of the release and still some weeks after, trade has turned into one huge mount rant… what do you think and did you buy it?

Did you buy the Celestial Steed mount?

Our Survey Says: To buy or not to buy?

Buying gold is in most peoples minds akin to treason against friends, against your community, and least importantly, usually against the End User License Agreement that you failed to read before clicking OK.

It is regarded as debilitating to the WoW economy and more so to our gaming experience leading to hacking, botting and all manner of nasties.

Our Survey Says: Peer Pressure

An easy one for you this week! I remember when I first heard about WoW. I’d been living like a student for a couple of years despite working and hadn’t had internet, so I was completely out of the loop when a friend mentioned he was getting it. I yelled at him not to be silly, because at the time he was working 12 hour days and I worried he’d have a nervous breakdown.

Of course after the first night of sitting in his bedroom calling out instructions from the manual while he, like a typical bloke, dived straight in and then found he didn’t know how to make his character sit down, I was officially counting the days until I could get my hands on some internet and join him. A few months later, in Summer 2006, my first character was born (and then crashed in IF never to be seen again.

Anyway! The upshot of this rambling is that I want to know how did you get into this game? Do you have bragging rights because you knew about it since Beta, or did your husband hassle you to join to avoid wife aggro?

If your partner is to blame, feel free to leave a comment and let us know whether you’re male or female. I think it’ll be interesting to see just how many girls get their man into WoW rather than the usual.

How did you get into WoW in the first place?

Our Survey Says: To EZMode or not to EZMode?

That is the question.

For those who aren’t aware, Icecrown Citadel zone-wide buffs have gone live on US servers (my gnomes tell me it’s not live for us yet, which can only mean it’s coming tomorrow). The current buff will give a 5% increase to your health, damage and healing done, which is a pretty big increase when you think about it. It’s very likely that higher percentage buffs will be activated over time.

The catch here is that these buffs are optional, but either the whole raid takes them or the whole raid doesn’t so far as I can tell. There are bound to be disagreements among those who would rather get a “clean” kill and those who just want to get through the bosses as quickly as possible, but if it were up to you which camp would you fall into?

Do you plan to take advantage of the new Icecrown buffs?

Our Survey Says: Goldmine

A common question you hear from newer players is how to make a lot of money very quickly. The stock answer appears to be “take skinning and mining, sell everything you gather, and worry about real professions later”. To an extent this is great advice, though I’ve seen people get to 80, change their professions, and spend the rest of their lives in poverty.

My question is this: on an established character, how do you find yourself making your gold?

How do you make most of your gold?

Our Survey Says: Website Fiend

How many times have I pointed a guildie* to Gear Wishlist? I’ve no idea, but it’s got to be a lot. This is an excellent example of a far-too-underused and yet extremely useful game-related website, and only a few of us seem to have ever even heard about it. I’ve been an avid user of these sites for a long time, in TBC for example my obsessions were Warcrafter and Loot Rank. Yet I’m constantly reminded that most people haven’t only not heard of these sites, they actively don’t care.

Do you use these resources to improve your character and your gameplay, or do you prefer the more relaxed “it’ll be fine” approach to character development?

How do you feel towards WoW-related websites?

Our Survey Says: Holiday Blues

Brewfest 2009 marked the first time that those players devoted (and lucky) enough to have completed all of the seasonal meta-achievements were able to get their hands on a genuinely stunning mount, inspiring awe and jealously in those around them. I myself know a depressing amount of people who fly about on their violet drake at every opportunity, often just because they know I want one.

On the other hand, maybe getting the drake first time round isn’t so fun now that everyone else is running about (or sitting still disguised as a snowman, whatever) getting their Winter Veil achievements the “lucky” few have nothing much to do.

So which camp do you fall into? Is Winter Veil achievementastic or just one long wait for your  BB gun?

How are you enjoying the world events this time around?
