Devil’s Advocate: Epic not really Epic

Eh? Epic not really epic? They look purple to me… Oh I see! You meant in the “They’re so common, they’re not epic anymore” category. Ah right… But how and why? Let’s look at that.

Once upon a time instance bosses dropped greens, not blues. Rares were pretty damn rare and epics were unheard of. Someone who had an epic was the centre of attention with everyone inspecting him and patting him on the back and ooing and aahing over how much of an awesome player he must be to have gotten an epic.

What changed? Most would argue it’s that the game has gotten easier and epics are being handed out like candy. But is that what really happened? Or is there more to it?

Rocket bears eating powder pancake suprise!

Introduction from the ED: Prue’s crazy endeavours have featured highly on Emerald Dreamers recently, he has kindly offered to do a running report of his 10 man achievement group for Icecrown Citadel, full of hints, tips and giggles along the way. This first post covers all the ICC boss fights and will elaborate on these and the hard mode achievements over the following weeks!

Seeing as this will be my first blog entry, covering our weekly ICC 10 man run, this one might end up being a pretty long write-up since we are already a few weeks in. The content will mostly be about the individual boss achievements, since these are our main priority, and the upcoming hard modes, coupled with – hopefully – some witty remarks and funny incidents along the way. With insanity tribute runs on farm very early on we have been aching to get some new challenges for our 10 man setup and without having tried any of Icecrown Citadel on the PTR it has so far been a refreshing experience compared to its gap-filling predecessor.

Devil’s Advocate – Easy Raiding

Devil Necrall

The sound of fighting echoes across Stratholme as the Scarlet Crusade fight their daily fight with the Scourge that remains in the city. The flames lick across the ruined buildings unimpeded by the rain that showers down. Even after three years, the streets are still strewn with mutilated corpses, both human and undead. In the upper floor of one building there sits another corpse in an old rocking chair, just watching the streets below, unbothered by the fighting, the rain or the fire.

The corpse waves his hand, summoning a bolt of flame which incinerates a passing ghoul. A soft chuckle escapes his lips as the screaming ghoul runs into a crowd of Scourge setting them all ablaze. “Which resident were you, I wonder,” he mutters as he immolates another ghoul, “so many people, so many lives lost” he sighs, blasting another ghoul. He scowls, crushing the arm of the chair he sits in, the wood turning to splinters in his fingers he climbs to his feet and roars, “HOW LONG!! HOW LONG TILL I HAVE MY VENGEANCE.” roaring he slams his arms down his sides as the rain turns from water to fire, adding to the flames already consuming the city.

FAILPUG! Should I Stay or Should I Go Now?

Introducing one of the new features rolling out over the next couple of weeks, FAILPUG! will make you feel better about that pug you previously thought was bad just by showing you how much worse it could have been. If you find yourself in a true FAILPUG!, take some screenies and send them our way.

Everyone expects VoA pugs to end terribly. Everyone except me that is. I’m like an innocent, fragile flower who has been sheltered from the raging storm of frustrating players by hiding behind my big rock of not-pugging. Good analogy, eh? So last time I saw a callout in Wintergrasp general for more to do a quick 10-man, I rolled up my sleeves and thought what the hell…

Tales from the Dream: Introducing the “Bonzo Chronicles”

Recently there has been this massive eruption of creativity spurting all over our guild’s forums (I want to know what exactly are they all drinking?)  Machinimia, some fantasy writing and now a creative take on Icecrown Citadel, which I have begged and pleaded with the author to publish for all of you Dreamers. Its long but well worth the read!

You may know him you may not know him but now he is most definitely an unlikely hero “For the Horde”

Famous for 5 Minutes: Monava

There are some very well known WoW-based studies out there, and we’ve probably all filled in at least one poll or questionnaire about our favourite pastime. There are reports on our avatar choices, our “addictions”, our online relationships and a lot else besides.

What you may not know is that we’re harbouring one of these research types on our very own realm. Not one of those reactionary negative types we hear so much about, but someone who genuinely enjoys the game and just happens to have an opportunity to delve a little deeper. I present to you…Monava.

Devil’s Advocate: Emblems of Triumph

Professor

Devil’s Advocate – Someone who takes an opposing position for the sake of argument, regardless of whether they agree with the stance they defend or not. This column will do just that, take a point of QQ and argue the opposite side.

Ahhh badges, who’d have thought that something intended to make getting upgrades easier would cause so much drama and whining eh?

*Adopts Freudian voice*

Ah-ah-ahem. Now I Doctor Rupert Charles Von Necrallion have some volunteers who wish to share their complaints of said badges and said upgrades. You shall analyse these statements with me to determine how much of their view is legitimate concern and how much is the gum flapping of bruised prides.

How to: Not apply to a raiding Guild

ButterknifeFor some guilds, all you need to do to get an invite is whisper someone and they’ll invite. For others… you have to apply. Now this apply may take many forms, for some its a simple forum written application, for some its an interview, for others its a dark ritual taking place late at night in the middle of the woods with people wearing black hoods and carrying serrated knives… Ok maybe not serrated knives, dinner knives most likely.

The general idea though remains the same and when applying to a guild there are some simple steps you can take to give yourself a better chance and some easy to make mistakes that’ll shoot yourself in the foot.
